2011 was declared the International Year of Forests by the UN General Assembly, with special focus to be placed on how people profit from and interact with forests.  In the film, we explore how the United Nations and its partners across the globe are involving local people in the protection of their forests. From the tropical forests of the Amazon and South East Asia, to the drylands of Africa, and the boreal forests of North America and Eurasia, forests cover a third of our planet.  This film examines what's already being done  to protect this vital resource as well as what more needs to be done.

Special thanks to Steve Nettleton and Jesse Stern.
