The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) is supporting a successful micro-financing scheme in Niger, known as Warrantage. The scheme enables farmers to use their harvest as collateral against a loan that they can then use to buy new agricultural inputs as well as to invest in small businesses. The scheme is empowering smallholder farmers to make more money and is helping relieve food insecurity in the country.
